My wife and I were looking to buy our first home. We tried it on our own for a little while but we were quickly met with "aggressive/pushy" real estate agents. So we decided to use the real estate that both my colleagues used also: it was Joyce. As soon as we contacted Joyce, she proposed to meet right away and asked us what we were looking for precisely. I remember two questions she asked us: what were the things that we needed? And what were the things that we wanted? As complete newbies in the real estate game, we were dreaming a little bit and Joyce gently brought us back to earth by telling us that we would have to make some hard decisions if we could not get everything on our two lists. When we met Joyce, we told her that we had already visited a house at this point and we went back to it with her. Joyce took charge and pointed out several things (HOA fees, finished basement options, garden/lawn care,.. ) that needed to be better explained/clarified to the seller's real estate agent. Joyce even proposed different proposals to the seller depending on the options and we bought the house, which my family (my wife and my two children) can call our home now. Joyce is: • Organized: she brought a binder at the closing containing a copy of all relevant documentation needed during the buying process • Not pushy: she will never force you to buy a house you do not like just to get a commission. • A good listener: she will listen to your needs and respect them. You want a house in neighborhood A and not neighborhood B: no problem! • A good educator/teacher: she will teach you the key points of the buying process. And the next time you buy a house, you will be better prepared. • Well connected: she recommended several mortgage companies. Of course, the ones I tried on my own had higher interest rates than Joyce’s ones. In summary, Joyce will help you get the house that you are looking for while entertaining you and without feeling pushed around.
